I think that this kind of movies can help the future generation to understand how the world changed, what's different nowadays. We can also find out how people were thinking, working, dressing up, what the society was like, what we still got from that time etc.. We can see how the role of women evolved in the society, from what we know : they were more respected, more free, they could work, have fun, think by themselves. And the movie "IT", shows us all those evolutions, and what changed in the 20's in comparison to the past.
ReplyDeleteThe movie "It" is a cultural and aesthetic movie for many reasons. First of all it shows in the 20s and in the film how the people were living : what they were doing, where they worked and how they were acting at this time. But "It" highlighed the different classes between the men and the women in the 20s. This film shows us many aspects of the living conditions and is trying to improve the restrictions imposed by the society. For example, the woman with short skirt was scandalous according to the society. And in the movie we can see that the main character "Betty" is a young and beautiful woman who seduce a man. The creators of the movie show the emancipation of this woman. So "It" wanted to change the morality of the people in this period to be more tolerant and open-minded.
ReplyDeleteIn my opinion, the movie "It" can be considered as a cultural and aesthetic document about women in the 20's. Firstly, the main character of the film is a woman shown as a modern woman by the make-up and clothes she is wearing, which outraged some spectators in the 20's. That's why the aim of this movie is to raise public mentality. They tried to modernise the people's way of thinking. Yes, during this period of history, there were many great changes, which were a big issue for society, like the reduction of gender inequality. Moreover, this film is now a memory of the past and has become a testimony of the living conditions of this period.

ReplyDeleteThis film shows us the change of behavior of women and their emencipations in the 20s. Their role as women changed in the post-war period. Women have a desire for freedom, they work, dress differently, make-up ... In the 20s this change was not accepted by all men, but this emmencipation of women has evolved until today in the whole world. Thanks to this aesthetic and cultural film we have a trace of the past which shows us the evolution of our society.
The movie « It » is a cultural and aesthetic document. Indeed, we can see the evolution of the role of women in the 20’s. Women can work, wear short skirts... they are more free. The main caracter, Betty Lou, is one of those modern women. « It » shows the important progress which women were making in society : women wanted to liberate themselves. This movie had probably changed the way of thinking and being of many women in the 20’s.
ReplyDeleteI think that this extract can help the people to understand the role of the women and why they were added to the society in the XXth century, and this film is revolutionary for this century and it was at this period that the world changed so the film « IT » is very rewarding
ReplyDeleteThis film is a testimony of what the life was like for women in the 20s' and how hard it was like to acquire step by step their emancipation. It lets us imagine how they were considered in society and highlight the differences between that time and nowadays in little daily details such as clothes and make-up. It helps us to understand the mentalities evolution and why now it' s important to value women's freedom.
ReplyDelete« IT » is a revolutionary movie. It is released in 1927(20´s century) when women still were inferior relative of men. It shows a brand new kind of women with make up, short skirt, who is completely compfortable. It must’ve play a role in the women revolution for more liberty and in the inequality of women.
ReplyDeleteThis silent film can be considered as a cultural and aesthetic movie. In fact, through this one, we can see the style of life and the way of thinking of people in a different period of the history. This movie also shows us a "new" modern woman, played by Clara Bow, who want freedom and who could have been a model for women at this time. This movie helps us to see the evolution of the society concerning egality between men and women.
ReplyDeleteThanks to this movie, we can see the way of thinking of the people during the 20's and the evolution of women. They decided to impose on in the society so we can see a "new" woman who want to appeal people who want to show that she is here. I think it was a great idea to help the society to become aware of egality between men and woman.
ReplyDeleteThis movie can be considered as a cultural and aesthetic document. We have the representation of the new kind of women during the roaring 20's. Betty Lou, played by Clara Bow is an exemple of a flapper : she wears short skirt, likes to be attractive and seductive. She isn't scared of being a powerful woman in control of herself. This attitude helped to the emancipation of women who were still restricted even though they had the right to vote. This movement of the flappers can be linked with the movement of feminism. I think this silent black and white film is a great representation of the USA in the 1920s both culturally and aesthetically.
ReplyDelete« It » is a silent movie which is also a cultural and an aesthetic movie. Indeed, it shows us women in different period and it also shows how the role of the woman in the society had changed. Women had more and more the freedom to wear short skirt, makeup as the want without a judgement of the men or the society. It was the women’s revolution. The main actress, Clara Bow, looks like an icon, an exemple. This kind of movie can also have a view of the role of the women in the 20’s and let us see and think about the differences in our time and in our society, especially an other way of thinking about the equality of the sexes.
ReplyDeleteIn the 20’s, people were still trying to come in termes with liberated women. The film helped people balanced the old thoughts with the new ones. Indeed, in this film, Betty Lou played by Clara Bow is an attractive woman who is not afraid to seduce men. Through her choice of clothes, like short skirts, we can see that women evolved progressively in the society back then. The people at the time were outraged by the behavior and choice of the character but the producers really wanted to change the mentality of the society and it really helped because now women can dress however they want. So this movie showed and symbolized the astounding progress women were making in society, as a cultural and aesthetic document.
ReplyDeleteWe can say that “It” is a cultural and aesthetic document because: firstly this movie shows a certain liberty among women that they wasn’t have before, like Betty Lou who wore short skirt, makes herself up and also work as clerk in a store. Secondly, the silent movie present the role of women who was to defy stereotypes and evolved toward a society where women could have more rights and could be equal with men. So, this film is a cultural document because it shows the way of life and the way of thinking in 20’s and also, an aesthetic document because is in black and white and it’s a silent movie.
ReplyDeleteThis cultural and aesthtic movie help us to understand what it was to be a woman in the 20's society. It shows how women started to act whithout thinking about what people could say, they wore different clothes, worked ... They became freer. And it also show that their role changed because Betty Lou is represented as an intelligent person and a woman who as mind.
ReplyDelete"It" is an aesthetic and cultural movie for a lot of reasons. First of all, it shows to women that they can be free with their clothes (wear a short skirt). Moreover, this movie shows us a message : women have to enjoy their life.
ReplyDeleteIn the film "It" the main character, Betty Lou, is representing like an intelligent women and like someone who does not pay attention to the looks of the others. So, we can assured that this film is a cultural and an aethetic document about the women in the 20's because Betty Lou is representing like an exemple for the women during this era. It is the beginnig of the women's revolution thanks to their new freedom to wear shorts skirts, to be more independent.
ReplyDelete"It" is a cultural and aesthetic movie of the 20th century.Indeed, Betty Lou, the principal caractere, is a beautiful woman with a lot of charisma. She might know it because she's sure of her, so it can be a model for other women of this century who were generally dependent of their husbands. It's a kind of "revolution" to see a woman dressed like her (with short skirt), wearing a new kind of make up and act like her in society (at work, with men). So this movie shows us the progress of women in our society over the 20th century.
ReplyDeleteEven if the movie is silent and in black and white, ‘It’ is excellent at showing the cultural changes of the 20’s. While the previous worries all seem washed away by the ending of WWI, joy and happiness are all over the movie, along with a society enjoying everything. Besides, no words are needed to demonstrate how the condition of women evolved through that specific period of history. Indeed, Clara Bow’s role as a flapper, her facial expressions, looks and gesture, all well depict the progress they made. I guess even ten years before, seeing a woman sit on desk would have disturbed some. But in ‘It’, we meet one that, free of her past conventions, has already entered modernity, careless of what other people might think. Considering the times, this mix of courage, independence, charm and confidence, gives to that character a lot to admire. With Betty Lou seizing her emancipation, ‘It’ symbolizes the social liberation of women, or at least the beginning.
